Carranza Puppets feature Carol and David Carranza, who are the puppeteers presenting their wonderful production of "Rumpelstiltskin." Mr. and Mrs. Carranza live in Houston, Texas where they build
their shows to present to elementary school children.
This year's production of "Rumpelstiltskin" is adapted from the German fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. The marionette play
is set in the late Rococo Period for this adaptation. The beautifully lavish costumes and settings, authentic details, and fabulous marionettes all add to the wonder and magic of this production.
This drama begins with the lovely Beauty, who spins the most beautiful yarn in the
Kingdom, and her Mother, who manages to set her daughter's life on the path to becoming a Princess. There is love, magic, intense emotions, and a dramatic ending to delight the audience.
It is suggested that the original version of "Rumpelstiltskin" might be read to the class
so that everyone is familiar with the tale. This adds to the children's enjoyment of seeing the Carranza Puppets marionette play. You might also explain what spinning
yarn is: to draw out and twist fiber (usually wool) into yarn or thread by using a spinning wheel.
It is also requested that the teacher explain proper theater manners to the class, and
the importance of observing these manners during the performance.
Thank you for having Carranza Puppets come to your school. We look forward to seeing you year after year.
